Most of my free time in the day is spent by doing some sort of art. Being creative has always been one of my favourite past times. As far as I know I have creative relatives from my mom and my dad's sides, so it is in my blood, left, right and centre!
Ever since primary school I have been doodling when ever I got the chance. It was in high school when I started drawing more seriously. My aunt is also very creative and she went for an art drawing course. She mailed us some photo's of the work she had done, and I absolutely loved her work. The pictures she drew also grabbed my attention and I decided to try and draw it myself. And so I did. I took an old desktop calendar and on the back of it and my normal HB I started drawing what I saw from the photo she sent us.
When I was done, my grandmother insisted that I send my aunt the drawings so that she could give her opinion. Well, it was obviously not nearly as great as her drawings but she said that she saw potential and gave me a proper sketch book, graphite pencils and told me to sketch away. I mostly sketched pictures of animals and so on and loved every moment of it!
1 Year ago (2008) I started teaching computer skills at a local college. There the graphics students have an art subject. When I studied for graphics we did not have art as a subject they just assumed we could draw. So it got me thinking, I can draw, but I have no art knowledge, I have never had a class or lesson of art in my life. Everything I know is my own knowledge. I was not satisfied, and wanted to know more.
I joined an art class at a local gallery in my neighbourhood. It was great fun! So most of my first pencil sketches that I have here are sketches that I have done for the art class. I first did a course of pencil drawing and I am currently busy with watercolours. And at work I use photoshop for most of the day.
Art to me is like an expression of emotion. I love drawing, and love is such an wonderful expression, isn't it?!
I can do commissions as well, so if you are interested. You can go and read more about my commissions here.
